Key Parts of the Cell Membrane: Phospholipid Bilayer : Made of special fats with two parts: Heads love water (face outward). Tails hate water (hide inside). This forms a strong barrier. Proteins : Integral Proteins : Embedded in the membrane, they help move substances, receive signals, and anchor the cell. Peripheral Proteins : Sit on the surface and help with signals and recognizing other cells. Cholesterol : Found in the membrane, it keeps the structure flexible and stable, even in different temperatures. What the Cell Membrane Does: Barrier : Stops unwanted substances from entering. Selective Gatekeeper : Lets some substances in and out. Signaling : Proteins sense and respond to signals. Sticky Helper : Helps cells stick to each other. Transporter : Moves nutrients, ions, and waste. The cell membrane is vital for protecting the cell and helping it i...
